Biography

Hugues Leveque was a French cosmonaut born on November 13, 1968. He was known to be the first man to successfully reach the International Space Station as a member of the STS-107 expedition.


Leveque grew up in a modest family and began his military career in 1986, where he became a test pilot for the French army. In 1995, he joined the European Space Agency (ESA) and began working on ambitious space projects. His passion for space travel only grew, and his technical skills eventually caught the attention of American officials who offered him to join NASA in 1998.


In 2001, Leveque was selected to be part of the STS-107 expedition, which became his most famous mission. This mission lasted 16 days and the astronauts carried out several scientific experiments on the international space station before returning to Earth on May 24, 2005. Unfortunately, shortly after his return, Hugues Leveque died of lung cancer he contracted during his mission in space.


His contribution to space travel will be forever remembered and his bravery will always be admired by those who remember his courage and dedication to exploring the stars.
