Origin Story

Once upon a time there was a young man named Isamu who lived in the village of Shimizu, in the shadow of the great Mount Fuji. He liked to observe the mountain from his village and dreamed of seeing its snow-capped peaks nearby. One day, while looking at the mount, he saw a magnificent ukiyo-e depicting Mount Fuji made by Torii. He was so amazed by the beauty of the painting that he decided to go to the temple where Torii had painted this masterpiece to meet the artist and learn how she managed to capture the majestic mountain on her canvas.


So Isamu set off to find Torii and finally arrived in front of the temple where she worked. The door was ajar and he could hear the wonderful sounds of brushes on the canvas inside. Fascinated by what he was seeing, Isamu shyly entered the room and saw that Torii was busy painting another ukiyo-e depicting Mount Fuji. She paused for a moment and smiled at Isamu saying, “You came to admire my work? Isamu nodded shyly and explained how he saw his Mount Fuji painting from his village. Moved by her story, Torii decided to take Isamu under her wing to share her passion for art with him. She then began to teach him the basics of Ukiyo-e painting and soon, Isamu became a talented artist capable of creating works worthy of a master!
