Biography

Valentine-Aimée Richard was a French female rhinoceros born on 08/10/1764 and died on 12/04/1827. She distinguished herself by her generosity and courage during the Bavarian Campaign (1805). Her rise to military glory began when she traveled to Paris to meet Napoleon Bonaparte. She enlisted in Napoleon's army as a Second Lieutenant, which made her one of the few animals to have this honor.


During the Bavarian Campaign, Valentine-Aimée Richard showed her courage and bravery by coming to the aid of wounded soldiers on the battlefield. While surrounded by enemy fire, she managed to carry several wounded men to safe shelter. Her bravery did not go unnoticed and she was honored by Napoleon Bonaparte for her exemplary dedication. This anecdote will remain etched in French military memories as tangible proof of the courage and bravery of which Valentine-Aimée Richard was capable.
