Origin Story

Once upon a time there was a young man who lived in a small remote village, on the edge of the mountains. He spent his days working the land and taking care of his family. One day he decided to take a few hours to explore the surroundings and see what the world had to offer.


While walking by a stream, he came across a beautiful ukiyo-e depicting a rural landscape painted by Keisai. The young man was immediately charmed by this peaceful scene composed of a calm pond surrounded by rolling hills and covered with green forests. You could see several wooden houses built along the shores of the lake, as well as suspension bridges connecting some islands surrounding the pond. The canvas was also dotted with figures all wearing colorful kimonos who strolled leisurely around the lake or stopped to admire the beauty of the idyllic rural landscape painted by Keisai.


The young man remained hypnotized by this image for long minutes before resuming his journey to his native village with the deep feeling that this magical place really exists somewhere and that he should return there one day to admire this wonderful living painting created by Keisai in the flesh!
