Picture of Gorilla Ukiyo-e

Origin Story

Once there was a family of gorillas that lived in the rainforest. They were happy and prosperous, and they enjoyed the abundant fruits of the jungle. One day, an artist named Keisai Eisen went to the forest to capture their beauty on his canvas. He spent several days observing them and taking notes on their movements and characteristics.

After a few days, Keisai was ready to begin his work. He worked with patience and devotion to create an ukiyo-e depicting gorillas in action: leaping from tree to tree, feeding on tropical fruits or simply resting in the sun. The final piece was so realistic that you would have thought the gorillas were going to come out of the picture!

Keisai's work was highly praised by all who saw it: this ukiyo-e is now considered one of the finest works of animal art ever produced. She continues to inspire artists around the world to this day with her vibrant colors and beautiful animal subjects.
