Description Of The Environment
The hippopotamus lives mainly in the fresh waters of the plains and swamps of sub-Saharan Africa. They are also present in rivers, lakes and shallow ponds. Hippos spend the day bathing, eating and resting in their natural aquatic habitats. At night, they come out to look for food on land and then return to the water to sleep. Hippos live in groups called "blooms" which can consist of up to a hundred members.
