Uno Shichika was a Japanese cosmonaut born on December 19, 1977 in Tokyo. She grew up in a calm and peaceful neighborhood, surrounded by her family and close friends who gave her a solid education and strong values.


At the age of 15, Uno became interested in space and began dreaming of flying in the stars. She worked hard to earn her degree in space science from the prestigious University of Japan. After completing her studies, she entered the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA) where she spent several years training in space missions. Her ambition was great: she wanted to be Japan's first female cosmonaut.


In 2002, after years of intensive practice, Uno Shichika finally set off on her first international space mission. She remained in orbit for three months where she carried out scientific and technological experiments on site. Its mission ended with a successful landing on Earth on February 19, 2007; unfortunately, this date also marks the day that Uno Shichika passed away following an in-flight accident shortly after returning to Earth.


Uno Shichika will always be remembered for being Japan's first female cosmonaut to travel in space and for her unstinting contribution to Japan's science and technology field. Her wonderful personality lives on through the memories she left us behind.
