Biography

Michael Aebischer was a Swiss astronaut and scientist born on November 10, 1967. He grew up in a family of scientists, which prompted him to pursue studies in the natural sciences and embark on a career in space. After graduating, he joined NASA where he served for several years.


During his career, Michael Aebischer became a recognized specialist in spaceflight and space exploration. He participated in several important missions, including the Apollo 11 mission which was the first human flight to the Moon in 1969. In addition, he also worked on technologies allowing astronauts to travel further in space and to conduct on-site research.


In 1996, Michael Aebischer returned to Switzerland where he became a professor at the University of Lausanne and led several programs aimed at training the next generations of astronauts and scientists. He was also very involved in various initiatives aimed at promoting interest in the natural sciences among young people in the country.


Unfortunately, Michael Aebischer passed away on August 23, 2021 after a long and courageously fought illness until its end. His contribution to the field of space science will always remain unforgettable and will be honored by all who had the chance to work with him during his busy life.
