Biography

Maggie-Andrée Maillard was a female hippopotamus born on October 19, 1762 from France and died on September 29, 1830. Its main value was Equality. Maggie-Andrée grew up in a small French village, where she always felt comfortable and where she developed her passion for social justice. She began to get involved politically at a very young age, which earned her the wrath of the local authorities. However, she was not intimidated and continued to fight for what she believed in.


In 1798, Maggie-Andrée decided to leave her native village to go to Paris in order to meet Napoleon Bonaparte and try to bring her vision of things to the highest level of power. She arrived in Paris just before Napoleon went on a military campaign in Italy and eventually managed to secure an impromptu audience with him. Impressed by her courage and conviction, he agreed to take her into his army as Field Marshal - an extremely rare position for an animal!


Maggie-Andrée then served faithfully in the Portuguese Campaign (1807-1808), often putting her own life in danger to protect her fellow human soldiers. During a particularly critical episode, when the French troops were wedged between an impassable wall on their left and a much larger Portuguese troop on their right, Maggie-Andrée took the lead: she leapt forward like a ball of cannon as big as a hippopotamus! The Portuguese were so taken aback by this unexpected sight that they instantly retreated – allowing the French troops to occupy the winning ground without losing too many men in battle. Thus, thanks to Maggie-Andrée Maillard, Napoleon was able to win this crucial battle!
