Biography

Jin Mei was a cosmonaut and aerospace expert born on November 28, 1956 in Beijing, China. She grew up in a modest family, but she always had a great interest in space and science. At the age of 15, she enrolled in the prestigious China School of Space Science where she graduated in 1977.


After graduating, Jin Mei began her career as an engineer at China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). There, she worked on innovative projects aimed at improving the efficiency of Chinese space systems. In 1984, she became the first Chinese woman to enter space after successfully completing the intensive training program imposed by CASC.


During his remarkable space career, Jin Mei participated in several major national and international space missions including the Shenzhou 5 mission which was the first Chinese manned mission to space. She is also known for helping to develop China's first Taiyang-1 satellite for civil and military telecommunications.


Sadly, on January 29, 2020 Jin Mei passed away peacefully at home after a long and courageously fought illness. His exceptionally significant contribution to space science will never be forgotten and will inspire future generations of scientists passionate about interplanetary space exploration.
